Controller with Clear Path to CFO - Berkeley Nonprofit Healthcare Fully On-Site Position | $115-145K

A well-established nonprofit healthcare organization in Berkeley seeks a strategic accounting leader ready to advance to CFO within 2 years. This respected agency serves Alameda County with comprehensive healthcare and rehabilitation services, managing a $15 million annual budget.

Your Path to CFO This role is specifically designed as a succession opportunity. The current CFO is planning their transition, and we're seeking someone who can step into the Controller role now and grow into the CFO position within 18-24 months. You'll work directly with the current CFO to learn the organization's strategic financial landscape while managing day-to-day accounting operations.

What You'll Own

• Direct all accounting operations while learning strategic financial leadership from the current CFO
• Master complex healthcare fund accounting with multiple government and private funding sources
• Lead month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closes with an eye toward process improvement
• Supervise AP, AR, and payroll teams while building your leadership skills
• Partner with department heads on budgets and financial analysis
• Coordinate audits and ensure compliance with nonprofit regulations
• Gradually take on CFO responsibilities as part of your development plan

What We're Looking For

• Bachelor's in accounting or related field
• 5-7 years of progressive nonprofit accounting experience
• 3+ years in an accounting manager role showing clear career progression
• NetSuite, Intacct, or ABILA MIP experience required
• Team leadership experience
• Healthcare/Medi-Cal billing experience (huge plus)
• Someone excited about daily in-office collaboration and mentorship
