Job Summary

This announcement will be used to fill a Special Education Program Assistant- Paraprofessional classification at the Minnesota State Academy for the Blind.

This position is open for bid and for all qualified job seekers simultaneously. The position is first open to employees of this agency who are in the Special Education Program Assistant (SEPA) classification and are eligible to bid on this job.

THIS IS A 10-MONTH PER YEAR POSITION - SCHEDULE IS BASED ON THE SCHOOL CALENDAR

The incumbents in this position provide paraprofessional academic classroom instruction or student management aide support at the Minnesota State Academies. Contributes to the design and delivery of academic instructional programs for blind/visually impaired students. Provides educational instruction and use a variety of techniques to encourage appropriate behaviors. Perform related work as required.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • At least two years of college credits (usually 60 credits in Minnesota) through an accredited institution of higher education; or

An associate’s or higher degree; or

A passing score on a valid and reliable formal assessment (Parapro or Paraeducator) demonstrating the knowledge and ability to assist with instruction in reading/language, writing, mathematics or readiness for each.

  • Knowledge or experience working with students in an educational and/or dormitory setting or a similar setting as a caregiver.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of multi-challenged/blind/visually impaired students and educational practices
  • Experience working with blind/visually impaired students in an educational setting.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds (with assistance) and to be able to sit, stand and walk throughout a workday.

Additional Requirements

  • Employment is contingent upon a successful criminal background check within the past 12 months
