Job Description

We are looking for an enthusiastic and customer-focused Retail Sales Worker to join our team in the breathtaking surroundings of Denali National Park & Preserve. In this role, you’ll assist customers with retail purchases, prepare coffee beverages, scoop ice cream, and ensure a memorable experience for visitors. This is a unique opportunity to work in a beautiful and dynamic environment while providing outstanding service to park guests. 

About Denali National Park & Preserve and Doyon/Aramark Joint Venture:  

Summer days in Alaska stretch nearly endlessly, with up to 20 hours of daylight on the Summer Solstice. Spanning 6.2 million acres, Denali National Park & Preserve is home to Denali, the highest peak in North America, and attracts over half a million visitors annually. Conveniently accessible by road—4.5 hours from Anchorage and 2 hours from Fairbanks. 

Doyon Limited and Aramark have teamed up in a Joint Venture as the Denali National Park & Preserve's Concessionaire. Open May to September, our operation manages the transportation, retail, guest service and food and beverage concessions with our client; The National Park Service. By road, our 100 Blue Bird Bus Fleet takes guests past the 15-mile public access point daily during summer months, allowing people to hike, view wildlife, climb, and camp where few people have set foot. 

This is a seasonal role with ideal dates of May 7 - September 23, 2026.

Employees are responsible for knowing the environmental aspects and associated impacts of their job position.  Job specific Environmental Aspects and Impacts will be communicated by Dept. Managers during EMS training. 

Job Responsibilities

Retail Sales 

  • Greet customers warmly, provide product recommendations, and assist with purchases. 
  • Operate a point-of-sale (POS) system to process transactions accurately. 
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and visually appealing retail space. 
  • Stock shelves, inventory products, and ensure merchandise displays are refreshed regularly. 

Coffee Making 

  • Prepare a variety of coffee and espresso-based beverages (e.g., lattes, cappuccinos) to order. 
  • Ensure consistent drink quality by adhering to recipes and customer preferences. 
  • Maintain cleanliness and functionality of coffee-making equipment. 

Ice Cream Scooping 

  • Scoop and serve ice cream in cones, cups, or sundaes while maintaining proper portion control. 
  • Handle toppings and custom orders with attention to detail and cleanliness. 
  • Keep the ice cream station clean, stocked, and organized. 

Customer Service 

  • Provide friendly, knowledgeable, and efficient service to all customers. 
  • Answer questions about the store, products, and Denali National Park attractions. 
  • Handle customer concerns or complaints professionally and escalate as needed. 

General Duties 

  • Follow food safety and sanitation guidelines at all times. 
  • Assist with opening and closing procedures, including cleaning and restocking. 
  • Work collaboratively with team members to ensure smooth daily operations. 

Qualifications

  • Required Skills and Experience 
  • Prior experience in retail, coffee preparation, or food service is preferred but not required. 
  • Strong customer service skills and a positive attitude. 
  • Ability to multitask effectively in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Basic math skills for handling cash and operating the POS system. 
  • Willingness to learn about the local area and share knowledge with guests. 

Physical Requirements 

  • Ability to stand, walk, and perform repetitive motions for extended periods. 
  • Capability to lift and carry up to 30 pounds. 
  • Comfort working in a variety of conditions, including occasional outdoor duties.
