Tax Manager – Private Funds

Multiple Locations | Hybrid Work Environment

If youre a Private Funds tax professional who enjoys leading teams, advising sophisticated clients, and working through complex fund structures, this role offers the chance to step into a true leadership position—without sacrificing balance, visibility, or growth.

This opportunity sits within a nationally respected Private Funds tax practice serving hedge funds, with exposure to private equity, fund-of-funds, and real estate vehicles. Youll operate as a trusted advisor to fund managers, guide high-performing teams, and contribute directly to both client strategy and practice growth.

What Youll Do

Tax Strategy & Compliance

  • Lead tax compliance and advisory engagements for hedge funds and other private fund clients

  • Review complex partnership and corporate tax returns, with emphasis on:

    • Hedge fund structures

    • Investor allocations

    • Income recharacterization

  • Advise on advanced technical areas including securities trading, mark-to-market accounting, fund structuring, and management/incentive fee arrangements

  • Interpret evolving tax legislation impacting private funds and identify planning opportunities

  • Provide guidance on federal, state, and international tax matters, including PFIC, CFC, and withholding considerations

  • Manage multiple engagements while maintaining high standards for quality and client service

Client Leadership

  • Serve as the primary client contact, owning relationships, timelines, and deliverables

  • Drive engagement planning and execution in collaboration with partners and directors

  • Identify and implement tax strategies aligned with client objectives

  • Oversee billing, budgeting, and WIP management

  • Build long-term, trust-based client relationships through proactive communication

Team & Practice Leadership

  • Lead, coach, and mentor staff and seniors, supporting both technical and career development

  • Foster a collaborative, high-accountability team environment

  • Contribute to training, mentoring, and leadership development initiatives

  • Support process improvements and knowledge sharing across the broader Private Funds tax group

  • Bring forward-thinking ideas and a continuous-improvement mindset to leadership

What You Bring

  • Bachelors degree in Accounting or related field

  • CPA license or active progress toward completion

  • 5+ years of progressive public accounting experience focused on private fund taxation (hedge, private equity, or real estate)

  • Demonstrated experience managing client relationships and engagement teams

  • Strong communication skills with the ability to explain complex tax concepts clearly

  • Proven leadership, project management, and organizational capabilities

  • Comfort operating in a fast-paced, collaborative environment

Preferred Experience

  • Review of complex, multi-tier partnership structures

  • Fund-level and investor-level allocation expertise

  • Knowledge of carried interest, incentive allocations, and distribution waterfalls

  • Ability to spot planning opportunities and contribute meaningfully to strategic client discussions

Locations

  • Cleveland, Akron, Youngstown, OH

  • Baltimore, MD

  • Buffalo or New York, NY

  • Chicago, IL

  • Denver / Greenwood Village, CO

  • Detroit or St. Clair Shores, MI

  • Milwaukee, WI
